How to Check If Your iPhone Has an Original Screen Before Selling

A non-original screen can reduce your iPhone's resale value by ₹3,000–₹8,000. Here's how to check yours and what to expect when selling.

If your iPhone has ever had its screen replaced - whether from an accidental crack or a minor display issue - the type of replacement matters enormously for resale value. A non-genuine screen can reduce your iPhone's selling price by ₹3,000–₹8,000 depending on the model. Here's how to check and what it means for selling.

Method 1: iOS Genuine Parts Warning (iPhone XS and Later)

On iPhone XS and newer models running iOS 15.2 or later:

  1. Go to Settings → General → About.
  2. Scroll down to the Parts and Service History section (or look for individual component entries).
  3. You'll see each major component listed as either "Genuine Apple Part" or "Unknown Part".

A screen listed as "Unknown Part" means it was replaced with a third-party display - not an Apple-certified component.

Method 2: True Tone Functionality

On iPhone 8 and later models, True Tone automatically adjusts screen warmth based on ambient lighting. If your screen replacement didn't come with a programmed True Tone chip:

Method 3: Visual Inspection

Experienced buyers and QuickGadgets inspection partners can often spot a non-original screen:

How Does a Non-Original Screen Affect Your Resale Price?

ModelReduction for Non-Original Screen
iPhone 11₹2,000–₹3,500
iPhone 12 / 12 Pro₹3,000–₹5,000
iPhone 13 / 13 Pro₹4,000–₹6,500
iPhone 14 / 14 Pro₹5,000–₹8,000

Should You Get an Original Replacement Before Selling?

An Apple-authorised screen replacement costs ₹8,000–₹18,000 depending on the model. This is almost never worth it purely for resale - the cost of the repair typically exceeds the price improvement it would bring. The exception: if your screen is cracked and non-original, an Apple replacement might improve your value enough to justify the cost on higher-end models (iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro).

Be Honest in Your Quote

On QuickGadgets, the "Is the screen original?" question is part of the pricing flow. Be honest - if you're not sure, check via Settings first. An honest quote that matches your device at inspection means no surprises and a smooth pickup. Trying to hide a non-original screen only causes friction and the buyer will always find out during inspection.
